The forthcoming Huawei Mate 70 Pro's live picture displays five back cameras

As we approach the end of the year, a lot of people are anticipating Huawei's second flagship series of 2024, the Mate 70 range. The Mate 60's launch last year was shocking because Huawei pulled off a major surprise. Last year's Mate 60 series was the first to use a 5G native Kirin application processor (AP), the Kirin 9000s, since 2020's Mate 40 line.

Undoubtedly, the Kirin 9000s was constructed using SMIC's 7nm node, whilst owners of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max utilised the more sophisticated 3nm A17 Pro AP. However, despite US export regulations that were meant to prohibit Huawei from utilising SoCs that support 5G on its phones, Huawei and SMIC managed to have the chipset manufactured. Additionally, everyone is excited to see the AP that will power those devices as the Mate 70 range is expected to launch before the year is up.

Although deep ultraviolet lithography (DUV) is typically used to prepare a wafer for 7nm production rather than anything more sophisticated, there have been indications that SMIC intends to use this technology to build a 5nm chipset for the Mate 70 models. We talked on nanoimprint lithography last year as a potential substitute for extreme ultraviolet lithography, which is the process used to etch circuitry designs on silicon wafers for advanced circuits produced utilising 5nm, 3nm, and even 2nm nodes. It will be fascinating to observe which silicon is utilised and how it is produced for the Mate 70 line.

We currently have access to a live image of the Mate 70 Pro that was discovered online in a Greek newspaper. It appears that a Huawei executive is holding the phone in the picture. A few weeks back, live photos of the tri-fold Mate XT were released, with seasoned businessman Richard Yu holding the device. In light of this, we wouldn't be shocked if the Huawei executive in the updated picture is the one with the hands holding the Mate 70 Pro.

The image suggests that there will be five cameras on the octagon island at the back of the device, which makes it much more intriguing. It is also evident from the shot that the screen has four curvatures. It is important to note that the Mate 70 Pro is not fully visible in the picture due to its case. On the right side of the phone, the power button is prominently displayed, accompanied by a volume rocker. A 60MP primary camera could serve as the Mate 70 Pro's major feature.

We anticipate the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Ultimate to be among the five devices in the series. It is rumoured that the Kirin 9100 AP chipset, whose name is less significant than the manufacturing node that built it, would power the Mate 70 Pro.
