July 2024's Top 10 Car Brands: BYD passes Hyundai.
Records for new automobile sales in July 2024 demonstrate the increasing presence of Chinese brands, even though Japanese brands still control the majority of the market.
In July 2024, the Japanese brand is still in the top 10 best-selling brands, but South Korean, Hyundai, and Chinese BYD brands are fierce rivals.
BYD recorded sales of nearly 1,600 units in June, the first month when Gaikindo data were available. With this wholesale record, BYD will be ranked as the tenth best-selling vehicle in June 2024.
BYD, on the other hand, sold more units—1,925—and was placed ninth in July 2024. Hyundai, which sold 1,701 units and is currently rated as the tenth best-selling car as of July 2024, lost ground to BYD.
Toyota continued to sell the most new automobiles in July 2024, selling 27,126 units. Daihatsu (13,910), Honda (6,249 units), Mitsubishi (5,569 units), and Suzuki (5,410 units) were the next most popular brands.
According to Gaikindo data, the total wholesale in July 2024 was 74,160 units, a minor decrease from the 74,623 units reported in June 2024.
Retail sales data for July 2024, however, reveal 75,609 units—a higher number than June 2024's 70,289 units.
As of July 2024, the total number of new cars sold was 508,050 (retail) and 484,235 (wholesale). This number may be conservative given that Gaikindo hopes to sell 1.1 million devices by 2024.
