743,000 automobiles are recalled, including BMW and Tesla: Look up auto recalls here.

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a number of recalls, including one for over 720,000 BMW automobiles because of a potential fire hazard caused by a malfunctioning water pump.

Are you trying to find out if your car has been subject to any recalls? Owners can search the NHTSA database or USA TODAY's automotive recall database for fresh recalls if their vehicle isn't on this list. You can look up recalls on the NHTSA website by entering your vehicle's identifying number, or VIN.

Here's what you should know about the car recalls that the NHTSA announced between August 18 and August 24.

BMW has recalled more than 720,000 cars because of a water pump issue that might start a fire.

Tesla recall for roof trim separation

Tesla has decided to recall 9,136 Model X cars from 2016. The car manufacturer stated in the NHTSA report that "the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces may be adhered to the vehicle without primer." According to the study, this might lead to one or both of the trim pieces coming away from the car. While driving, a trim that comes loose from the car might be a hazard on the road and raise the possibility of an accident.

Tesla service will check the adherence of the roof trim and reconnect any damaged pieces as a fix. This service will be rendered at no cost to you. Letters of recall notification are anticipated to be mailed on October 14. Owners can reach out to 1-877-798-3752 for Tesla customer assistance. SB-24-12-008 is Tesla's number for this recall. Recall 20V-710 vehicles that have already undergone repairs must undergo the new inspection and fix.

BMW recalls

The luxury vehicle company said, "the left-side longitudinal beam may crack, compromising the structural integrity of the chassis." Poor structural integrity may damage the vehicle's high-voltage battery during a crash and increase the risk of fire, the NHTSA report said.

To fix the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the left-side longitudinal beam as necessary for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be delivered by Oct. 7. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

For water pump malfunction that may cause a fire

BMW is recalling 720,796 of its 2012-2018 vehicles. Some of the recalled vehicles include the BMW X1, X3, X4 and X5. In the NHTSA report released on Aug. 19, the luxury vehicle company said, “an improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.” An electrical short increases the risk of a fire, the report said.

To fix the issue, BMW dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector as necessary and install a protective shield for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent on Oct. 4. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
