Tesla has issued a second recall since 2020 for a roof trim issue affecting 9,100 Model X SUVs in the United States
Tesla has declared a recall for roughly 9,100 Model X SUVs in the United States because of a possible problem with the roof trim. Since 2020, there have been two recalls pertaining to this issue.
The cosmetic trim pieces on the front and center roof are under recall because it's possible that primer was not applied correctly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that this could lead to the trim coming off, which would increase the danger of an accident and create a hazard on the road.
Models impacted and corrective action
Model X SUVs from the 2016 model year are included in the recall.
According to Tesla, the supplier changed their procedures in July 2016 to address this problem with newer models. At no additional expense to the owners of the vehicles, the business will evaluate the roof trim's adherence and replace any loose pieces.
Research and conclusions
Tesla has been looking into problems with earlier recall fixes since 2022. Part of this investigation involves testing for humidity, heat, and aging. The examination found that the 2020 recall solution was insufficient to stop the aesthetic roof trim pieces from coming loose since there was not enough primer.
Although Tesla has received about 170 reports and claims regarding this problem, it has not recorded any collisions or injuries linked to it. Since Tesla typically resolves problems with over-the-air software upgrades rather than with physical recalls, this recall is significant for the firm.
total recall activity for Tesla vehicles
According to recall management platform Bizzycar, Tesla recalled around 2.6 million cars in the first half of the year owing to safety concerns, trailing only Ford Motor, which recalled about 3.6 million cars nationwide.
The Cybertruck, Tesla's most recent model, was the subject of a recall in June—it was the model's fourth.
